Choosing 12v Battery Testers
Measuring car’s battery voltage is extremely simple, and any driver can do it. Some of the battery testers need to be plugged in the lighter A/C outlet. By doing this, they provide you with information about battery health and the charging system. This can make the driver confident about his car battery that it is not going to flat. This gives a piece of mind, reconditioned and old batteries can also be utilized with extreme confidence. In case, the car fails to start up, the battery should be checked to check if it is caused because of battery failure or something else.
A 12v battery voltage tester can be applied to check the condition of the battery, which will be useful deciding whether to change the battery or in case, there is some other problem with the car. Most of the voltage testers range from $10 simple models to professional models, which cost in hundred dollars.
It is easy to test car’s battery with a multimeter only if you do have knowledge about how to use it, and where to connect the leads. Following are some of the uncomplicated steps while you are testing your car’s battery with multimeter;
Open the car’s hood and locate the battery. Make sure that you are following the manufacturer’s instructions accurately, and you have disconnected the cables from the battery. The next step is to turn off the multimeter, and set its voltage scale to 50 volts. This will reset the multimeter and will provide you with an accurate and exact reading. Then you have to join the lead to the positive battery terminal. Make sure that you are putting the lead on the battery post, not just on the cable, as this will give you the most exact reading of the voltage.
Attach the black lead with the battery’s negative terminal. Once again, ensure that you have connected all the leads properly, as it will give you an accurate reading. Then, you have to read the meter’s gauge after the period of 15 seconds. If you are having a digital readout, having a 12v battery tester, then you will get a reading of minimum 9.6 volts, which is running via the multimeter and taking it to charge. If the voltage is less than 9.6 volts, then you require a new battery.
